I meditated about the gifts of the Holy Spirit during my Eucharistic Hour, on June 8, 2012. A metaphor emerged: we are wind turbines and the Holy Spirit is the wind. The turbine is surrendered to the wind.
When we surrender to the Holy Spirit, He grants us his gifts as He pleases and we become His instruments, because we relinquish our intellect and will to His control. Saint Thomas Aquinas stated: the gifts of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and counsel direct our intellect, while fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord direct our will.
The next day, I woke under mixed emotions while I heard a loud and clear voice: “your suffering is your treasure.” I realized it was a message of the Holy Spirit.
