Christ has taught His disciples to approach Suffering in life.
“Then he said to them all, ‘If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it. What does it profit them if they gain the whole world, but lose or forfeit themselves?’’ (Luke 9:23-25)
“Do you see these souls? Those who are like Me in the pain and contempt they suffer will be like Me also in glory. And those who resemble me Me less in pain and contempt will also bear less resemble to Me in glory. In your meditation tomorrow, you shall think about what you have seen today,” said Christ to Sister Faustina. (Diary 446)
We must emulate Jesus in pain and contempt exercising the Fruits of the Holy Spirit: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, long-suffering, humility or gentleness, fidelity or faithfulness, modesty, continence or self-control and chastity. Love, the foremost fruit of the Spirit, is so wonderful that Paul describes the ideal Christian in an entire chapter (1 Corinthians 13) to praise love, which is brought to perfection through union with Christ. Refer to the article Holy Spirit’s Gifts and Fruits.
The Counselor grant us seven gifts: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord. As we surrender to the Holy Spirit, He operates in us and through us, to develop His Fruits in our personalities.
The Holy Spirit renews our minds developing new understandings and interests, including a new desire to know God, and the new attitude leads to the fruits of the Holy Spirit and a changed life. It is the Holy Spirit, with human consent, who operates these wonders in us.

Praise the Lord. When I worked with teens who didn’t want to even go to mass. We used the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Big time. They were taken to Charistmatic Conferences. At one conference it’s main speaker, Fr. DeGrandis, spoke to them first. He prayed over them and gave each a book on Teen Forgiveness. When they got home TV’s were put on and St. Padre Pio was having mass. At our next meeting they didn’t want to go to mass on Sunday’s ONLY. Now it was as soon as possible. And they asked what they could do for the church. I tatted rosary’s for them and we asked a priest to speak to them. Now they enjoy praising the Lord asap!
Always willing to offer up my suffering to Christ. The intense pain of seeing Evil is to know the Passion of Christ.
I love that reading. It lefts me up when I am down. It makes me stronger in my Faith. My mother pointed out to me one day that people do not understand suffering. That we should offer all of our sufferings to God. It’s the cleansing of the soul. She also pointed out to me that Jesus, Our Lord, didn’t leave this world without suffering. What makes us think that we are not going to suffer? If Our Lord showed us how to cleanse ourselves, we should embrace it. Embrace our sufferings and offer them to God.
