The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick may contribute to the cure of patients or prepare them to move to eternal life. The Holy Spirit renews confidence and Faith of the patient in God and strengthens the patient against despair, anguish, temptations and discouragement at the thought and struggle of death.
Anointing of the Sick has five main effects:
• The uniting of the sick person to the passion of Christ, for his own good and that of the whole Church;
• The strengthening, peace, and courage to endure in a Christian manner the Suffering of illness or old age;
• The forgiveness of sins, if the sick person was not able to obtain it through the sacrament of Penance;
• The restoration of health, if it is conducive to the salvation of his soul;
• The preparation for passing to eternal life; the entire Catholic Church asks God to lighten sufferings, forgive sins, and bring a moribund to eternal salvation.
Anointing of the moribund expels demons. Ensure you call a priest to administer the sacrament when the moribund is aware of his terminal condition, so God strengthens the patient against despair, anguish, temptations and discouragement at the thought and struggle of death.
