Indonesian Christians are often challenged in their Muslim-majority country. They often face harassment, discrimination, workplace hardship, life-threatening attacks, abusive and mandatory Islamic dress codes for girls, difficulties in obtaining church building permits, church raids and terrorist attacks. Yet, Indonesian Christians stand firm in their faith.
A predominantly Muslim country officially promoting religious harmony, Indonesia recognizes six religions: Islam, Protestantism, Catholicism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Confucianism. Although religions other than Islam are widely practiced throughout the archipelago, it is common for adherents to face harassment, discrimination, and life-threatening attacks.
Indonesian Christians, especially converts from Muslim backgrounds, often wrestle with societal and familial pressures leading to hostility and disdain. The ability to assemble and worship is also becoming increasingly challenging, but the discrimination Indonesian Christians face, it has not slowed church expansion.
