It is said that something called “The Quiet Revival” is happening in the West. Young people, disappointed by the material failures, moral vacuum and intellectual banalities of a godless society, are turning to Christianity. They seek “full faith.”
I have not seen statistics to back up this claim – if, indeed, statistics could prove such a proposition. It is possible that this revival is quiet only because it is very small.
Nevertheless, the conditions are propitious. Adversity tends to strengthen faith. The one time in living memory in which British church attendances rose was during the Second World War.
Charles III has developed this message, as he did at his Coronation. His position and his beliefs are wholly Christian, but his form of Christian service is inclusive, offering a warm house for all faith. This is clever, because it addresses a modern problem. Better still, it is true.
People cannot be made to be Christian, and they have every right not to believe. What is tragic is a civilization built on Christianity which does not recognize, appreciate or teach our inheritance. Such a society deserves to lose the respect of those it disinherits.
“God is the same yesterday, today and forever.”
