Pope Paul VI confirmed an explosion of evil during his audience on June 29, 1972. He said, “It is as if from some mysterious crack, no, it is not mysterious, from some crack the smoke of Satan has entered the temple of God.”

Roe vs Wade legalized abortion in America on January 22, 1973, and Our Lady of Akita, in an approved apparition in Japan, on October 13, 1973, indicated how the “smoke” would affect the Church.  She said, “The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that we will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops . . . the Church will be full of those who accept compromises.  The demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.”
