Saint Mark was born in Cyrene, Libya, and died as a martyr about April 25, 68, in Alexandria, Egypt.  He Knew Christ personally and traveled with Barnabas and Paul on many religious missions.  Mark converted many Egyptians to Christianity, and founded the Church of Alexandria.

The early church gathered in the house of Mark’s mother, where Mark learned Peter’s teachings about Christ.  Mark visited Peter in Rome at Paul’s request when Peter penned his first letter.  Mark wrote the shortest canonic gospel narrating Jesus’ teachings and focusing on His actions.   The gospel often narrates Christ’ ministry in detail, presenting His actions in a vivid style as a chain of incidents with great historical value, to show Christ rescued humanity dying on a cross.
