“Vengeance Is Mine,” says the Lord

“People of God, cast off the thirst for revenge that you are holding in your minds, the resentment and envy in your thinking, and the hatred in your hearts,” advised the Holy Spirit in the article Luz de Maria, June 12, 2021.

Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. (Romans 12:19)

The Bible is very clear on our role with seeking revenge. In Romans 12:19, God tells us to never take revenge and to leave it to the Lord. God is the ultimate judge and when we seek revenge, we are taking His place. When we become overwhelmed with what others have done wrong, we become filled with anger and find ourselves focused on hate.

There is a very good reason why the Bible teaches repeatedly that vengeance belongs to God alone. The simple reason is because only God is omniscient, that is, knows all. If you had the power to hurt someone who hurt you, or someone who hurt one of your loved ones, there is the real possibility that you might judge wrongly.
