I meditated about the Holy Spirit‘s gifts during the Eucharistic Hour, on June 8, 2012. A metaphor emerged: we are turbines, and the Holy Spirit is the wind blowing each turbine as He pleases.
He grants us His gifts as He pleases, and we become His instruments delivering Him our intellect and will. Saint Thomas Aquinas stated: wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and counsel direct the intellect, while fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord direct the will.
I awoke scared the next day hearing a loud and clear voice: “your suffering is your treasure.” I realized it was a Holy Spirit’s message.
