A reader asked “Will atonement end at Christ Second Coming or the souls will stay in Purgatory until their atonement is complete?”

Purgatory will not exist after Christ Second Coming.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

The biblical passage addresses the question.

  • The dead in Christ shall rise first.
  • The living in Christ shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.
  • And so shall we ever be with the Lord.

I conclude “Atonement will end at Christ Second Coming” per God’s Grace.

Notes:

  • “The dead in Christ” means all persons that have died in the state of grace.
  • “The living in Christ” means all persons that are living in the state of grace at Christ Second Coming.
