Educational Methods to Control Anxiety

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) has many methods to control anxiety. Bibliotherapy is one of the methods, and some anxious patients get more help from published articles and books than from their therapy sessions. Audio and audio-video cassettes can supplement bibliotherapy.

It is a therapeutic approach, versatile and cost effective, that uses literature to support good mental health. Bibliotherapy often supplements other types of therapy. Proponents of the approach suggest mild to moderate anxiety symptoms can be successfully treated with reading activities. Individual and group therapy may utilize this method appropriate for children, adolescents, and adults.

Miss Smith’s anxiety about writing term papers decreased considerably with bibliotherapy. She made great progress when she began teaching REBT to anxious individuals, and eventually overcame her fear of writing term papers.
