Baptism and Confirmation confer a permanent imprint on the soul; therefore they can be received only once. The sacrament of Penance can be received multiples times and we should receive the sacrament whenever we fall in mortal sin before we receive the sacrament of the Eucharist.

I went to Confession regularly in Portugal before I immigrated to the United States on June 16, 1976, and desired the follow the practice in America. However, I appeared alone to receive the sacrament.  Am I the only sinner in this parish, I wondered?  Yes, there has been rampant Apostasy in the United States, although the Catholic Church recommends the sacrament of Penance at least once a year.
